A Mission Passed On

Here are the directions: 1. Ad a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I have had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember. This can be about me, or any related memory of my family.... 2. Next, repost these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It is actually pretty funny to see the responses.

I remember being "Mrs. Brown" in a little tent in the back yard in Cortez when you were trying to memorize your discussions the summer before you left on your mission. You would ask me gospel questions and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to answer or not, since I was Mrs. Brown the investigator. I remember bringing you popsicles when you were working on the pipe crew in Cortez too. Love the way you hate shots and needles just like me.

I remember you getting stung by a bee one day when we were taking off to go and do the newspaper route. I remeber this b/c this was the first time I had heard you swear. LOL.

I admire what an amazing father and grandfather you are. I love coming to your house and just feeling the love you have for your family. You seem to enjoy being a papa so much, I think you are like one big happy kid with them!

I remember going on our annual hikes up the mountain. I fell down and hurt my knee, you picked me up and carried me home!!
I loved those hikes together!

I also remember going to Allen's early in the morning and helping you unload the grocery delivery truck on Saturdays. I remember going in the big freezer and then eating day old donuts (at least I think they were only a day old) and drinking milk...good memories!

My last comment came up under Rick. So, here is another one. I remember just last summer, you, mom, Garrett, Bryn and I went down to St. George for Tuacahn. You and I were down at the pool with the kido's, and you and I talked. You have ALWAYS been my favorite person to talk to. I have always taken to heart your thoughts and feelings, and I feel very blessed to have you for my dad.

I remember the last World Wide Dance Festival we were in. There were thousands of people dancing on the U of Utah football field. When all the dancing was over, we drove up and down state street and around Temple Square yelling "good job," and "best of luck," to all that we knew were in the dance festival. It was a lot of fun and great to be a part of it all.

I have known you for 32 years and I can only leave one memory...sheesh!

"Make me proud" that was a slogan you used often. Many times in my life those words have come to mind when I have made a decision. I hope I have made you proud!

I know I have told you this one before, but I remember this moment often in my life when things get difficult.

It was the day of Jayden's funeral. I was struggling and crying and my body was so worn out and tired. I really felt like I couldn't go to her funeral. I didn't want to face all the people. I know everyone was coming for support, but I just didn't think I could cry anymore. I went downstairs to tell everyone I wasn't going to go, and I found you in the kitchen. I told you how I felt and you just hugged me. For a long time. You told me I needed to go and that it would be all right.

And so I went! But when things get tough and I just "don't want to go" ... I think of that moment and I know that no matter what comes my way, "I know I can go!" After all, I have the best dad in the entire world! I know you will go with me...smile!

My latest memory of you is playing horse with you in my backyard and you winning. It was so much fun. Aunt Dot played also. The first time I have played ball with both of you.

Sorry for the deleted comment. I thought I was on Amy's blog for a second...so I was leaving a memory of Amy!
For you I just remember you always telling stories. Stories, stories and more stories!

I remember us playing ping-pong in your basement. Dennis was sitting on a bucket by the net being the judge and keeping score. You had me backing away from the table to return your awesome spikes then you gently laid a soft shot over the net. As I dove forward trying to get to the ball, my feet went out from under me and knocked the bucket out from under Dennis. It was quite hilarious with me on the floor, Dennis on me, and you just laughing your head off. Just one of my fond memories with the Dean boys. Thanks for the memories.

Uncle Ricky, do you remember racing my up the tree at our house in Kirtland... I thought I had you in the bag, seeming as I was a good 35+ years younger than you... However, I barely beat you up and back again!

Okay, so my first memory of you, is when we went sledding and I crashed into the tree. You took me home and helped patch me up. My favorite memory is the time we went to my dad's grave and we talked about him. I don't remember my dad, but I feel like I know him because of you.

I remember when you let me rake your leaves for a nickel. You sure got a good deal--but then again, by how young I was, my job was probably only worth a nickel.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I heard you were compiling a book about moments from Jayden's life. Is that true? I would be interested in read it.

I love this blog activity, it brings back so many memories. I remember you coming to Youth Conference and playing your guitar and singing. That was the first place I met Joel. I also remember the notes you would leave on the cupboard when Joel or one of the girls would "forget to do the dishes", haha, I loved those!
